Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Mandate

  • Enhance youth development and empower the youth
  • Develop and further improve sports in the Maldives
  • Develop policies to empower civil society
  • Implement policies developed by the government for making youth responsible and accountable 
  • Enhance the social and economic well-being of the youth and assist with their challenges in these areas.
  • Assist the youth in their health and well-being and encourage them to lead healthy lifestyles.
  • Provide counseling for the youth on various psychological issues faced by them.
  • Conduct awareness, career counseling, and other programs for school leavers, for the youth who face difficulty deciding a career path, to make them responsible, beneficial, and accountable.
  • Develop and assist youth and institutions with programs focused on the youth career path, and life skills, that enhance youth empowerment, and improve discipline, and development.
  • Collect and provide job market information for the youth.
  • Develop and conduct multiple skills training programs for the youth
  • Organize and conduct various recreational and entertainment programs for the youth.
  • Plan and implement projects for youth and sports development.
  • Assist the relevant authorities in preventing and protecting youth from drug abuse
  • Develop and implement multiple programs to prevent youth from drug abuse, and communicable diseases, instill patriotic and cultural values, and improve societal peace. 
  • Facilitate youth participation at the national level in various areas of society. 
  • Participate and represent the Maldives in international youth endeavors, and organize and host national events for the youth. 
  • Hold events for the youth in collaboration with national and international organizations and NGOs.
  • Provide technical as well as financial assistance for the youth community organizations and NGOs
  • Maintain a registry of the clubs, community-based organizations, and NGOs and play the role of the registrar of such associations
  • Assist, empower, and award clubs, NGOs, and community-based organizations.
  • Widen the role of community-based organizations and assist to develop and improve the performance of such organizations
  • Discuss and provide information to community-based organizations and NGOs on seeking technical and financial assistance nationally as well as internationally and implement and monitor such aid programs
  • Instill interest in civil society programs and involve the public in such programs.
  • Work on building partnerships with community-based organizations, NGOs, and the private sector.
  • Develop a mechanism to work collaboratively with the government, private sector, NGOs, and community-based organizations and implement joint programs.
  • Act as a liaison office between the government NGOs and community-based organizations on programs the government wishes to carry on with the support and cooperation of such organizations.
  • Create a national forum of NGOs and community-based organizations
  • Assist in the functioning of the Maldives Olympic Committee, national sports associations, clubs, and sports community-based organizations
  • Monitor clubs, associations, and sports organizations that are funded by the government
  • Build and develop sports and recreational facilities for the youth
  • Develop guidelines for use of youth centers, sports grounds, sports facilities, courts,
  • Conduct awareness programs for civil society and the public on various social needs
  • Work with national and international parties on efforts related to the ministry’s mandate
  • Oversee the National Sports Council and perform secretariate duties of the council
  • Oversee Maldives National Institute of Sports as per the Sports Act (30/2015)
